Malpractice Claims for Necrotizing Infections Rare but Costly

BOSTON—Although necrotizing soft tissue infections may be rare, they nevertheless have led to many malpractice claims over the past 30 years, sometimes with costly outcomes for surgeons, according to a new review.

Researchers at SUNY Upstate Medical University, in Syracuse, N.Y., found that delays in diagnosis and timely management of these infections was the most common reason for litigation.
